Robert Benjamin Boyd Jr. October 01, 1928 - February 02, 2015 Robert Benjamin Boyd Jr. “Bob”, 86, of La Porte, Texas passed away on February 2, 2015 in his home surrounded by his family, after a brief battle with leukemia. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia on October 1, 1928 to the late Robert B. Boyd Sr. and Nellie (Banks) Boyd. He was preceded in death by his wife Julia Mae Boyd, his children Robert J. Boyd and Sharon Trader and his sister Jean Rae Simmons. Bob graduated in 1945 from Norview High School. He married the love of his life Julia Poston in 1950. After 9 years of active duty, he retired from the U.S. Army in 1954 as a 1st lieutenant after being wounded during a battle in Korea. He was awarded the Purple Heart, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal along with a Combat Infantryman’s Badge. After completing his education at Old Dominion University he moved with his family from Virginia to Texas in the early 1960’s to be part of the early days of NASA. He retired in the late 1980’s as the Logistics Department Manager after more than 35 years of service. Bob was a member of the Christian Church and a lifetime member of the Norview Lodge of the Freemasons. Bob became a Master Mason and then a Shriner and enjoyed serving his community for many years with this organization. Bob enjoyed playing bridge and other card games several times a week. He played with several groups throughout the area and cherished the time spent with friends. Bob is survived by his daughter-in-law Holly Boyd of Pasadena, grandchildren Nathan Blanchard of College Station, Rob Boyd of Pasadena, Rachel Blanchard and fiancé Mathew Maier of Sealy and great-grandchildren Lennon and Ennis Maier. Visitation will be on Friday February 6, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 12:00PM with the funeral service following at 12:00PM; both will take place at Paul U. Lee Funeral Home Chapel in La Porte. Entombment at the Grand View Memorial Park in Pasadena will follow.
