Please share a memory of Kassie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kassie Deryl Killam, 29, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2020. She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Henrietta Killam; and uncle, Gene Leshe. Left to cherish her memory are her father, Wesley Killam; mother, Sonja Flanigan; grandmother, Reba Counts; aunt, Mary Leshe; life partner, Charles Neill; sisters, Kaley Wagner and husband, Chris, Kelsie Bain and fiancé, Dakota; nephews, Hunter and Mason Wagner; niece, Khloe Wagner; her beloved dog, Molly; and a host of other family and dear friends.
Always an optimist, Kassie always saw the good in everyone and every situation. She personally touched everyone she encountered just by being herself. Her infectious smile and laughter made others want to be a better version of themselves. She always made time for others because that is what mattered to her most. Kassie was known to spread goodwill by paying for the person behind her in line at Starbucks and would often buy dinner for the homeless. She was thrilled to shop at Goodwill because she always found that someone else’s trash was her treasure. Kassie was a competitive athlete, who played softball for many years, and always strove to be the best. Family meant everything to Kassie and she was an excellent sister from the beginning and although she didn’t live close the last several years, Kassie’s presence with the entire family was of the upmost importance to her. Kassie loved her dog like a daughter. The two of them were thick as thieves, always together in good times and bad. Kassie’s curiosity was endless and she was always wanting to experience new things. Five years ago she packed up Molly and the two of them headed to Austin with the support of her family. Without knowing what was in store for her there, Kassie embraced the adventure. She made south Austin her home and was growing to love her new city and its people. Kassie met Charles not long after arriving in Austin and the two of them were together for four and a half years before she passed. They explored Austin’s culinary scene together by regularly venturing out to new places for date nights and experiencing everything Austin has to offer. Kassie and Charles moved in together just before the pandemic began and they weathered the storm together with their trusty dog, Molly. Kassie’s family was central to her and although she was far away, it didn’t diminish her love for them a bit. They were always in her thoughts and prayers. Kassie lead a team of twenty nurses at Texas Orthopedics. She was passionate about caring for those in need and was tireless in advocating for them. She always had a personal touch with her employees and patients. In her ten years as a nurse, she had a part in helping thousands of patients across Texas. Kassie had just completed her college schedule to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor, which was her passion and ambition. Kassie loved the outdoors, she was fascinated by mother nature’s plants and living things. She was an avid gardener, brightening up the space in and around her home with plants and vegetables. Kassie wanted to have a farm one day with all kinds of animals, horses, ducks, pigs, cows, chickens, goats and more, but not geese, definitely not geese. Kassie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
