Eula Papoint Jarrell, 94, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents Emile and Ursule Lapoint; loving husband J.D. Jarrell; sons Dennis and Brian Jarrell; three brothers; and two sisters. Left to cherish Eula’s memory are her son Glenn Jarrell; daughter Lisa Gefrides and husband, Chris; grandchildren Zachariah, Rebecca, Hannah, Lindsey, Lauren, and a host of other dear family and friends. Eula grew up in a small house outside the small town of Gueydan, Louisiana. Her family didn't have electricity or indoor plumbing, but they did have a horse and buggy. Eula’s first language was Cajun French. She didn't learn to speak English until she went to elementary school. Eula’s mother passed away when she was seven years old. She and her siblings were raised by different relatives because her father was unable to care for the six of them. Eula and her older sister were raised by their aunt, Estelle Lege. Following high school, Eula married J.D. Jarrell, who served in the Army for more than twenty years. They were stationed in places such as Georgia, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas, and even Quito, Ecuador, where Eula learned to speak Spanish and also where their son, Glenn, was born. Following her husband’s retirement from the Army, they settled in El Paso, Texas. Eula was active in the Baptist church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School to first graders. Eula loved children, and her grandchildren brought her extra special joy. Eula's hobbies included gardening, sewing, and quilting. She loved Jesus and showed it through her love and kindness to others. Eula will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A graveside service will be held for Eula on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at the Houston National Cemetery, in Houston, Texas. Gate time is 9:45 am.
