Dorothy Ruth Fincher, 79, passed away on March 9, 2011. Born in Elmira, New York on September 17, 1931, she is preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Ruth Allen; her husband of 54 years, Newton Fincher; and brother, Don Allen. Dorothy is survived by her son, William Fincher; daughters, Cathy Rudzinski and her husband, Walter, and Carol Peeples and her husband, Bill; sister, Grace Murray; sister-in-law, Aurora Allen; grandchildren, Daniel Rudzinski and wife, Jessica, David Rudzinski, Stephanie Rudzinski, Ryan Peeples, Alex Peeples, and Emma Peeples; great granddaughter, Hayden Rudzinski; as well as a host of many other family and friends. Dorothy and Newt married after only a six week courtship. They started their marriage of 54 years in Houston, Texas. After saving their money, they purchased land in Pearland and spent four years literally building their own home together. Dorothy and Newt built their life around the church. Many of their lasting friends have come from their church family. Dorothy always remained very active in the church, from teaching vacation bible school, helping out with the youth group, to calling Bingo at the nursing home. She was an active participant in her Sunday school class. Dorothy enjoyed all types of activities; from bowling, to competing with Newt on the golf course. She especially enjoyed her time playing in the Chevron golf tournaments as well as the women’s golf charities tournaments. In the family she became known as the “master” bridge player. She participated in two separate bridge groups for many years. She remained very active throughout her life and was always up for a camping trip with the family. Her children said she was the “glue” that held the family together. She was born to be a Mom and Grandma. She was always there when you needed her, from being there when grandkids were born to watching the grandkids so that her children could take vacations, to caring for her mother and father-in-law in their later years.
