Obituary of Merri R. Twiggs

Merri Twiggs, 85, formerly a resident of Washington DC, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2022 in Pearland, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents Hobert and Hazel Twiggs, and sisters Jacqueline Tucker and Barbera Ann Twiggs. Left to cherish her memory are her brothers David Twiggs and wife, Judy, Douglas Twiggs and wife, Nancy, James Twiggs, Arthur Ray Twiggs and wife, Gloria; sister Loleta Riggin, and a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Merri was born in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, on June 7, 1937, the third child born of eight. She grew up in Spruce Pine and graduated from Harris High School. Over the course of her life, Merri lived in New Orleans, Washington D.C., New York, San Francisco, and eventually returned to Washington D.C. She moved to Pearland, Texas in the final year of her life to be closer to her family. Merri was literate, artistic, and lived a full, healthy life. She enjoyed playing tennis whenever she could.

Merri worked in the Insurance industry, Municipal Bond industry, and finally in grants administration at Georgetown University. She was a long-time resident of the Towers Condominiums on Cathedral Avenue N.W. in D.C. where she made many, many friends over the years. Merri loved her family dearly and looked forward to times when they would get together. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. The family will have private memorial gatherings in Copperas Cove, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia.
