Obituary of Phyllis Juan Horn

Please share a memory of Phyllis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On July 6, 2023, the world said goodbye to Phyllis Horn at the age of 80. A beacon of warmth, kindness, and creativity, Phyllis had a profound impact on all who were fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a legacy filled with love, faith, and a resilient spirit.

Phyllis now joins her loyal companion, her dog Callie, her beloved husband, Junior Ray Horn, her loving parents Veva and Leamon Penland, and her cherished brother, Murray Penland, all of whom predeceased her. Their memory and spirit continue to illuminate the lives of those they left behind.

Left to carry forward Phyllis's indomitable spirit is her cherished grandson, Daniel Thetford, whom she raised with unwavering love and devotion. His fiancé, Nicole Buechner, her beloved granddaughter, Madison Thetford, and a host of others whose lives were touched by her kindness also survive her.

Phyllis was a woman of many passions and talents, but her love for crafting—specifically, creating beautifully decorated crosses and jars—was perhaps her most expressive. Her creative spirit was a beacon that spread joy and warmth to everyone around her. As a devout Baptist, Phyllis found immense solace and strength in her faith.

Her happiest moments were often spent in the company of her dear friends Doylene, Mary, and Jeanie. Their regular meetups, walking trails, and at their favorite Mexican restaurant brought much joy and companionship to Phyllis. She had a particular fondness for scooping the largest piece of avocado from the green sauce, and she adored pinto beans and cornbread.  She was also an avid quilter, often joining the ladies at her church for quilting sessions, a pastime that brought her great joy.  Phyllis was also an avid reader; her passion for literature was never satisfied until she had collected every book in a series.

Phyllis's kindness, selflessness, and enduring love for her family and friends will be cherished and continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

To honor Phyllis's memory, a service will be held at the SouthPark Cemetery on July 14, 2023, at 10:30 am. We invite everyone who knew and loved Phyllis to join us in celebrating her remarkable life and legacy.

While Phyllis may no longer be with us in body, her spirit and the memories we shared with her continue to shine brightly in our hearts. We are reminded of the love, joy, and warmth she brought into our lives. May she find eternal peace.
