It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of TJ Edmond, Jr., a devoted husband of 38 years, father, and beloved member of the Cypress community, who left us peacefully.

Born with a natural curiosity and a talent for mechanics, TJ spent his early years helping his father in a lawn mower repair shop, where he discovered his passion for taking things apart and solving problems. This foundational experience ignited a lifelong dedication to the world of mechanics, leading him to a fulfilling career as a diesel mechanic at TXI, a legacy company established in 1943. His work ethic, coupled with a zest for life, made him a well-respected figure in his field.

Upon retiring, TJ earned the affectionate nickname “Cypress Mechanic,” as he continued to pursue his passion for cars by opening a garage shop to serve his neighbors and friends. He was known for his quick wit, infectious laughter, and ability to brighten anyone’s day with a well-timed joke.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, TJ was an avid competitive race car driver. He gained recognition in Houston for his thrilling performances, notably behind the wheel of his prized 1970 Chevy Nova, affectionately known as “Blue Magic.” His enthusiasm extended beyond cars to include boats, showcasing his love for all things mechanical.

In a heartfelt tribute, Ward Nye, CEO of Martin Marietta, expressed, “My more than 9,000 colleagues at Martin Marietta join me in expressing to you and your family our deepest regrets and sympathies on the loss of your father. Equally, we are grateful for your family’s two generations of service and dedication to one of our predecessor companies, TXI, as well as our industry.”

TJ is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Edmond-Demas; children, Professor Terrance Edmond, Traeyvon Edmond, and Shantell Lacy and husband Curtis; sisters, Dolores Brown and husband Carlos, Tanya Edmond, and Tamarra Moore; grandchildren, Corey, Sa-Niyah, and Cash; and many cherished family members and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, and an unwavering passion for mechanics that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A memorial service to honor TJ’s remarkable life will be held at Clayton Funeral Home of Pearland, on Saturday, October 12th, 2024. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am, with the service commencing at 11:00 am.
