Marguerite Adelieth “Penny” McBride – Penny died following an accident at her residence in Galveston, TX on January 9, 2014. She was born on December 15, 1938 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents Margaret and Robert R. McBride. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert R. and Shirley McBride of Katy, Texas, nieces Mrs. Sharon Potter and her husband, Ed Potter of Houston, TX, Mrs. Pat Morgan of Bellville, TX and Mrs. Betty Dunagan of Dallas, TX and one nephew, Mr. Robert R. McBride and his wife Heather of Austin, TX.
Penny graduated from High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana and received a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from McNeese State College. She then went to New Orleans, Louisiana where she received a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Tulane University. Following her graduation from Tulane she worked for a time in social work in the Lake Charles, Louisiana and then moved to Germany where she was employed by the American Red Cross in Frankfurt. Upon returning to the United States, she served on the faculty at McNeese State University. In the mid 70’s she came to Houston and worked for Catholic Charities in the Houston area. She subsequently moved to Galveston, Texas and worked at the University of Texas Medical Branch in the Psychiatry department until her retirement in 2005.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 11:00 am in the chapel at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1010 35th Street, Galveston, TX 77550. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the SPCA or American Cancer Society.
