Joan Haarup, 90, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2014. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alexander and Maud Coddou; her brothers, Lex and John Coddou; sister, Virginia Cobb; son, Cary James Haarup; and daughter, Robin Wood. Joan is survived by her daughters, Linda Long and husband, Tom, Debby Keese and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Penny Weeks and husband, Bill, Shelly Peters and husband, Tim, Wendy Manbeck and husband, Mark, Glen Wright and wife, Lisa, Keely and Lindsay Madison; eighteen great grandchildren; and many other beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Joan was a devoted mother and grandmother that cherished spending time with her family. She was a successful apartment manager for more than 30 years, and took great pride in becoming friends with the many residents of her apartment. Joan loved gardening flowers and vegetables. She loved all kinds of flowers and when she could no longer grow them, she wanted artificial flowers around so she could enjoy them all the time. Joan was a strong woman who overcame many obstacles throughout her life and persevered without ever complaining.
She enjoyed card games, dominoes and was known to put several puzzles a day together. Joan loved family trips and was especially fond of her gambling trips to the casinos. She was affectionately known as “MeMaw” to her grandchildren and “G.G.” to her great grandchildren. Joan will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Monday, November 3, 2014 at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The family will be receiving friends beginning at 10:00 am and the service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Keith Anderson officiating.
