Harvey A. McMullen, age 79 of Pearland, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on January 6, 2009. He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer A. & Blanch McMullen, son Richard McMullen, and sister, Lois Serlet. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Lydia; daughters, Gisele Oakes & her husband, James, Michele Jackson & her husband, Randy; brother, Robert A. McMullen & his wife, Carol; sisters, Jean Coughlin and Dorothy Hartridge; grandchildren, Rachel & Kelsey Oakes; and numerous other relatives and friends. Harvey was born on April 15, 1929 in Fort Collins, Colorado. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict and earned the rank of Sergeant. Harvey worked for many years as an SBA Finance Director for the U.S. Government. He was a loving husband, father, pawpaw, and Rotarian. In his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Lydia and Harvey were happily married for 51 years. They loved to travel and were lucky enough to see the world together. Harvey was a man who truly lived by the Rotary motto, “Service above Self”. He was a past member of the Houston, Astrodome, and Pearland Rotary Clubs. He was still a current and very active charter member of the 288 Corridor Rotary Club. Harvey always had a smile on his face and a wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Visitation for Harvey will be on Thursday, January 8, 2008, from 6 pm to 8 pm in the Clayton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rosary being recited at 7 pm by Pastor Brian Lambert. The Funeral Service is on Friday, January 9, 2008 at 2 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 6502 County Road 48, Manvel, Texas 77578, 281-489-7603. Father David Zapalac will be officiating.
