Maudene was the loving mother of 7 children, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was a 4th generation Texan who grew up in Lufkin and Houston. At the age of 21, she was swept off her feet by John Louis Young, who she met while working at Dupont. John served in the US Army Corps of Engineers during WWII. After a long distance courtship, Maudene rode the train from Houston to California to marry John. They were married for 61 years. After the war, John, Maudene and their two oldest daughters moved to South America where John worked as an engineer for Anderson Clayton Inc. Maudene immersed herself in the language and customs of the countries. She quickly became fluent in Spanish, which she enjoyed speaking her entire life. Her life in South America greatly influenced her cultural values and world view. As a result, her children enjoyed an atmosphere of open hospitality and appreciation of cultural differences.
Upon their return to the US, Maudene, John and their family of four, moved back to Texas, where her family continued to grow. Maudene was a devoted mother of 7 who took great pleasure in raising her family. She worked tirelessly to provide a happy, loving home for her children. She met many close friends in Houston and Friendswood and enjoyed Garden Club and Bridge Club. Maudene always showed affection and kindness to all people. She adored her family and friends, and never met a stranger. Even with a family of seven children, her home was always open to friends, their friends and friends of friends. She created harmony and delicious food for all to enjoy. Her love and acceptance of all people was truly an inspiration to her family.
The last ten years of her life were spent in the loving care of the angelic staff at Trinity Oaks. She enjoyed the time spent playing games, taking field trips. She cherished the close relationships with the many friends and caretakers she met there. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
