Obituary of Walter Howard McAleer

Walter Howard McAleer, 82, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015. He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Alice McAleer; and sister, Maggie Foren. Walt is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Ducky McAleer; son, Dave McAleer and wife, Julia; daughter, Marguerite McAleer; brother, John McAleer and wife, Norma; four grandchildren, one great grandson and a host of other family and friends.
Walt was born in Royal Oak, Michigan. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and had a very successful career with USAID as a Chief Engineer for more than 30 years. His career took him all over the world – to include Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Egypt, Sudan and the Philippines. Walt was an excellent provider for his family and along with his big heart, was generous to both family and friends. After retirement, Walt and Ducky enjoyed many wonderful years in Florida where they were both active at St. Ignatius of Antioch Catholic Church. His devotion to the church included serving for many years with the Knights of Columbus. In 2013, Walt and Ducky relocated to Houston to be closer to their family. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
A Visitation and Funeral Mass for Walt will be held Monday, January 26, 2015, at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood Drive, Friendswood, Texas 77546. The visitation will begin at 10:00 am and the service will follow at 11:00 am with Rev. James H. Kuczynski, M.S. officiating.
