John “Jack” Prentice, 91, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Prentice; his loving wife of 54 years, Catherine Mavis Prentice; brother, Bill Noble, and sister, Madeleine Forest. Jack is survived by his son, Stewart Prentice and wife, Sharon; daughter Jackie Storey and husband, Kenneth; grandchildren, Kathleen and Erica Storey, Samantha and Steven Prentice; and a host of other family and friends. Jack was born in Torphichen, Scotland on August 1, 1923. He served in the British Army during World War II with the 2nd Battalion Royal Scottish Fusiliers. Throughout his life, Jack loved playing the bagpipes and was a member of the Royal Scots Fusiliers Pipe Band. Jack was a long time member of the Torphichen Pipe band which won a world championship piping competition. Jack immigrated with his family to South Africa in 1967 and he worked in South Africa for 34 years as a machine shop inspector and later chief inspector for David Brown Gear Industries. Jack and Catherine enjoyed traveling and taking cruises all over the world. He always looked forward to spending time with “his gang” at the Knapp Senior Center in Pearland and for going on drives in classic cars on Saturday with Stewart. Jack will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack’s honor to the Knapp Senior Center in Pearland, at 2424 South Park Avenue, Pearland, Texas 77581. A Memorial Service for Jack will be held on Monday, February 16, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581 with Rev. Dr. Bob Joiner officiating.
