Please share a memory of Esther to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Esther Harris Burse, 61, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016. She is preceded in death by her mother, DeAllen Harris. Esther is survived by her father, Lex Byrd; her loving husband of 41 years, Jimmie Burse; daughters, DeAllen Burse Millender and husband, Kevin, Janell Burse-Henderson; brother, David Harris; sisters, Regina Williams, Deborah Jones and husband, Albert; grandchildren, Kamron and Blake Henderson; and a host of other family and friends.
Esther was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother that cherished spending time with her family. She was married to Jimmie Burse on September 21, 1974. She and Jimmie were married 41 years before she left this world. They first met when they were both 14 years old. As a couple, Esther and Jimmie rarely did anything apart. They were always seen together holding hands and smiling. Their love was certainly one-of-a-kind and inspired those near them to reach for similar heights.
Esther loved shopping, decorating, and watching women’s basketball. She was very proud of the accomplishments of her youngest daughter, Janell, who played women’s professional basketball. She was affectionately known as “Ma” to her grandchildren and loved them immensely. She also loved spending time with her toy poodle “Puffy” and enjoyed spoiling him and dressing him up. She was strong in her faith and truly loved the Lord. She was known as a “prayer warrior” and prayed for herself and others often; never giving up her faith or spirit in the face of illness.
Esther vas greatly inspired by her late mother, DeAllen Harris to joining the nursing profession. After earning her LPN license at L E Rabouin Career Magnet School in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1974, she enjoyed caring for patients with an array of medical conditions. Esther was often admired for working in so many varied clinical areas of specialty. She eventually returned to college and graduated from Louisiana State University School of Nursing in New Orleans, Louisiana, earning her RN license in 1992. She enjoyed working in the nursing profession for over 40 years. She truly loved her patients and gave her life proudly to the poor and underserved populations of both New Orleans, Louisiana and Houston, Texas. Esther’s oldest daughter, also named DeAllen, followed in her grandmother and mother’s footsteps by joining the nursing profession as well. Esther will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
