So sad to see this news. Carl and I were friends at Purdue, and we lived in the same dorm, so my memories of him are of a young man in his early 20s. We lost touch shortly thereafter. Even so, I instantly recognized his remembrance photo. At least he was able to experience the humanity of children and grandchildren, and the support of friends later in life.

I want to add my tennis memories with Tony's thoughts. I had played with Carl for many years in our league. Carl was ranked at the top of the scale for tennis strength and experience. My memory of Carl was his positive nature while on the courts regardless of your experience level. He loved the game of tennis, and winning/competition, but mostly he loved hanging out with his tennis friends.

I have been a friend of Carls for over twenty years. When the torch was passed on to me to direct the Brooks Tennis league, I turned to Carl to help me guide the league through it's early expansion days. I seized on his passion for tennis and his gentle demeanor . He created many of our schedules and was incredibly responsible for our King of the Mountain tournaments. Carl also designed our present logo and bought all of our trophies for the tournaments. He was invaluable to the league. He was sincere, he was earnest , and he was loyal. I live next to the Middle Brook tennis courts and although I cannot play again due to a knee problem, I still look over my fence on Tuesday nights and see the players on the courts getting ready for their matches. I will miss seeing Carl dropping his tennis bag and jogging around the outside of the courts to warm up. I so appreciate his friendship and I will never forget him. TONY

Carl was so hospitable to us when you opened your home to us in 2012. We were going through a very uncertain time and it was of great comfort to stay at your home. Carl's kindness and gentle spirit will always be treasured and never forgotten. May the peace that passes all understanding be with all the family. Our love and prayers are with you.
