Obituary of Minnie Lee Harris

Minnie Lee Hollingshead Harris, 92, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016. She is preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Barsa Hollingshead; brothers, Glen Hollingshead and wife, Nelda, Clifford Hollingshead and first wife, Lee; sisters, Aline Burns and husband, Bob, Irma Pratt Hearn and first husband, Donald; sister-in-law, Ruth Hollingshead; and son-in-law, Leslie “Les” Hays. Minnie is survived by daughters, Jeanette Hays, Martha Salyer and husband, Mike; brother, Cecil Hollingshead; sister-in-law, Marcia Hollingshead; grandchildren, Stephen Hays, Sheridan Salyer, Crystal Johns; three great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. Minnie ran a successful bookkeeping and tax business for over 61 years. She only retired when her health started to rapidly decline. Minnie was determined her entire life and after becoming a single parent at 31, she continued to build her business and buy her own house in Pearland in 1961. It was that year that she also placed membership in the Pearland Church of Christ. Minnie loved growing flowers and plants and was known for her green thumb. She was very talented with crafts and needlework. Minnie loved giving back to her community and delivered Meals on Wheels until two years ago. She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and doing crossword puzzles. Minnie will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. The funeral service for Minnie will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 10:00 am at Pearland Church of Christ, 2217 N. Grand Blvd., Pearland, Texas 77581 with D.C. Brown and Paul Cartwright officiating. Interment will follow place at Ryan Cemetery in the community of Tarkington Prairie near Cleveland, Texas. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Ryan Cemetery Memorial Fund, c/o Linda Groce, 312 CR 2309, Cleveland, TX 77327 for future upkeep.
