Obituary of Jimmy Childs
Please share a memory of Jimmy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jimmy Childs left this world October 27, 2016, while lying in his favorite recliner and watching football. While he never made a big fuss around the house, he will be sorely missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Carol Hooper Childs, his children and his many friends.
He is survived by his son, Jay Childs; granddaughter, Tiffinie Gorman; twin grandsons, Blake and Todd Childs, their wives; Charles Childs and wife, Denise, their children Nicholas, Eric and Rebecca Childs; and loving daughter, Susan Rozycki and her children, Mason and Morgan Rozycki. Jimmy was a proud great grandfather of five with two more on the way soon.
He has a niece, Linda Pouffle and nephew, Ken “Kip” Soper, children of his sister, Wanda Anderson Soper, who predeceased him along with his mother, Thelma Sellers and his adopted father, Paul Childs.
He was a 50 plus year member of Pipe Fitters Local 211 in Houston. He worked many years in construction overseas with Flour and Litwin Companies in St. Croix, Virgin Islands, Venezuela and Iran. He managed to leave Iran just prior to the revolution.
Jimmy was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on July 24, 1930 but moved to Galveston as a child where he attended schools, graduating from Kirwin High. He played for both Ball High and Kirwin where he lettered in several sports. He served in the Texas National Guard for many years. He was a 32 Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish rite.
