Obituary of Virginia Ruth Lowe

Virginia Ruth Lowe, 91, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Fannie Brazil; her loving husband of 54 years, John Ross Lowe Sr.; sons, Dallas Craig Lowe and Forrest Miles Lowe; daughter, Sallie Ruth Boles; brothers, Homer and Cecil Brazil; sisters, Cora L. Smith, Lola V. Brazil, Elva S. Freeman, Veneta F. Granger, Dorthea Brazil, and Winnie Brazil. Virginia is survived by son, John Ross Lowe Jr. and his wife Ann, daughters, Martha Gail Starkey and husband, Jerry, Betsy Gay Lowe; eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren and a host of other friends and family. Ruth was truly the matriarch of her family, anyone could go to her with their challenges in life and she would listen and was always there to help. Her caring spirit never allowed her children to go without. Ruth was an avid reader and enjoyed visiting the downtown library and would always bring home lots of books for all her children, creating another generation of avid readers. Her caring spirit was always doing for others and her gentle nature included a love of animals. Ruth was strong in her conviction and a humble Christian. She enjoyed raising her kids and made Sunday fried chicken dinners a beloved tradition. When she sought your opinion she was seeking an honest objective opinion, she was not fishing for a compliment. She was not pretentious in any way. In her career outside the home she spent many years as a secretary, followed by bookkeeping support for her husband’s small business. Ruth was loved by so many and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. A visitation and funeral service for Ruth will be held Monday, November 7, 2016, at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The visitation will begin at 10:00 am and the service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Keith Anderson officiating. Interment will take place Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for the family to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
