Obituary of Marilyn Louise Potts
Marilyn Louise Potts passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 in Houston, Texas.
The visitation and funeral service will be on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas, with BJ McCurdy of New Shores Church officiating. The visitation will be at 9:45 am with the service immediately following at 10:30 am. Marilyn then will return to Blue Springs, Missouri for an additional service and burial.
Marilyn was born on May 19, 1940 in Green Castle, Missouri to Bernice and Wilma Lawson. She graduated from Novinger High School and later achieved her teaching and master’s degrees from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, Missouri. She was a teacher for 30 years, primarily as an elementary physical education teacher in Independence, Missouri. She later moved to Texas to be closer to her granddaughters.
Marilyn is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Kristin Potts, her granddaughters, Mackenzie and Alexa Potts, all of Pearland, Texas, her sister, Betty Swisher, and brother, Dale Lawson, both of Kirksville, Missouri, and a number of nephews and nieces and extended family. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Wilma Lawson of Green Castle, Missouri, and her husband, Harold Dean Potts, of Independence, Missouri.
Memorial donations can be made to the Gulf Coast Baptist Association, 2700 TX-35, Angleton, Texas 77515, designated for the mission work of Holy Trinity Church (Pastor Grozdan Stoevski) in Bulgaria, or the Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, Texas 77030.
