Obituary of Hattie Merle Clarkson

Hattie Merle Clarkson, 84, of Pearland, Texas, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years J. Glenn Clarkson; parents, Julia Edna and Obid Luther Collier; and brother, Jerry Collier. Left to cherish Hattie’s memory is her son Jim Clarkson and wife Mary Lynn; daughter, Vickie Wilson and husband Jim; brother, Larry Collier and wife Sandy; sisters, Millie Rush and husband Gary, Ocie Wilkerson; 8 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and a host of other family and dear friends.

Hattie married Glenn on July 1, 1950, was a loving and devoted wife and supported his career no matter where it took them, from Brownsville, Texas to Joliet, Illinois, Decatur, Alabama, and Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina before retiring in Denton, Texas. During their travels she worked as an assistant to the area director for Field Enterprises in IL and assistant to the president of IPSCO in Decatur, AL.  She took care of Glenn 24/7 during his long illness before passing. Hattie was an accomplished athlete before her time, playing high school basketball at Levelland High School and taking part in competitive golf as an adult. She enjoyed playing social bridge and passed that hobby along to her daughter-in-law. Hattie made wonderful holiday meals of which she has passed down the recipes to daughters and granddaughters. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Services for Hattie will be held Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Resthaven Memorial Park, 5740 West 19^th Street, Lubbock, Texas 79407 in the cemetery chapel. The visitation will begin at 1:00 pm and the service will follow at 2:00 pm.
