Obituary of Mildred Marie Koehn

Mildred Marie Koehn, 85, of Pearland, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. She is preceded in death by her parents Mary Malota and Joe S. Liska and husband Clarence “Kano” Koehn. Left to cherish Mildred’s memory is her son, Bruce A. Koehn; daughters, Karen Hannan and husband Bob, Lisa Koehn; grandchildren, Melissa Perry, Christine Flores; three great grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends.

Born to Mary and Joe S. Liska on July 14, 1932, in Ennis, Texas, Mildred had two brothers and a twin sister who passed away at birth. She was a wonderful sister who took care of her brothers, Stanley and Joe L., like “a mother hen”, as Stanley would say. Mildred attended St. John’s Nepomucene, in Ennis, throughout grade school and high school. She graduated in 1949 as valedictorian. She was president of her senior class and served on the yearbook staff. Mildred moved to Houston to attend business school and went on to work at Wessendorff Nelms Co. She met Clarence Koehn at a dance hall in Houston and they were married on August 20, 1953. They were married for 61 years and had three children, two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Mildred worked at the Ellington Air Force base as a secretary to the Commander. She received numerous awards for her dedication and hard work at the air base. She was a devout Catholic and very active in the Catholic Church. She enjoyed going to church and receiving communion even while housebound. Mildred would bake goods for the Catholic Daughters and various other church functions. She was strong in her Czech heritage and organized a Liska family reunion, upon returning from the mother country, to celebrate and unite family. Mildred traveled frequently, going on tours, cruises and RV camping. She was a secretary for two retiree groups, Ace in the Hole and Shell retirees, sending monthly newsletters to each member. She enjoyed baking strudels, kolaches, and even made mints for special occasions. Mildred liked watching sports, playing games on her IPad, reading emails, and Facebook. She loved her family more than anything. Spending time with her granddaughters and great grandchildren, sharing pictures of them with everyone, and even transporting homemade cookies on an airplane to them, were her favorite things to do. She decorated her house each holiday and always made it feel like home. Mildred was a kind, caring, friendly, generous and nurturing woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to American Breast Cancer Foundation or Houston Hospice.

A visitation for Mildred will be held at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581, on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Road, Pearland, Texas 77581, on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at 10:00 am with Father Jim Courville officiating.
