Obituary of Norma Jean Quast

Norma Jean Quast, 87, of Pearland, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018. She is preceded in death by her parents, Vivian Ruth and Weldon R. Cook; husband of 66 years, Archie Quast; son, James Quast; daughter, Debra Welsh; sister, Nelda Vento; and grandson, Aaron Kurtz. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Bill Quast and wife, Marian; daughters, Becky Kurtz and husband, Frank, Susie Quast Walker; ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and a host of other family and dear friends.

Jean was a dedicated Christian, mother, and homemaker. She devoted all her time to her five children and the church. She had roles at South Park Baptist Church and Park Place Church, as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunbeam Leader, GA Leader, and WMU President. Jean was the Room Mom, PTA President, and always very active in her children’s schools. She enjoyed sewing, reading, square dancing, and RV camping. Jean was “a cook in name only” and some of the family favorites included, bread pudding and fried chicken. Although she battled with Alzheimer’s for the last 15 years she still very much enjoyed going on outings with her grandkids to Chickfila and Gringos. Jean still made it to the grandkids sporting events and loved spending time with her family. She was affectionately known as Mema to her grandchildren and loved to have everyone over for the holidays. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.

The services for Jean will take place at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The visitation will be on Monday, May 7, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, with Chaplain Rick Atkinson officiating.
