Samuel D. Matzas, 91, of Pearland, Texas passed away on June 21, 2018.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Esther Minahem and David Matzas; wife, Hester Matzas; sisters, Regina and Louise.  Left to cherish his memory are his son, David Matzas and wife, LuAnn; daughter, Donna Matzas; grandchildren, Sam, Curtis, P.J., Elaine, Jodee, Amy, Steve; 11 great grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends.

Samuel served in the U.S. Air Force as a B17 Pilot during WWII.  He was a first generation American, whose parents immigrated from Greece. They came thru Ellis Island and settled in Brooklyn, New York. Sam was an accomplished musician.  He was blessed with good health for most of his life. He started as an aviation mechanic at Hobby Airport in 1963.  Sam established Consolidated Aeronautical Services in 1965 and ran his company successfully for 20 years until he decided to sell it. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.     

Sam graduated from the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music where he mastered several styles of trumpets.  He played with several big bands, the likes of Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, and others. Sam started the Pearland Community Orchestra and conducted it for several years.

Services for Samuel will be held at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581, on Saturday, June 30, 2018.  The visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12:30 pm.
