Lawrence Monroe Ludtke, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away Friday, May 4, 2007 at the age of 77 years surrounded by his family and close friends. A native Houstonian, Lawrence was born August 18, 1929 to the late Lawrence Monroe and Dorothy Lewis Ludtke. Lawrence grew up in Houston, Texas, played professional baseball, worked in the sporting goods business and later developed his skills as a sculptor. Lawrence created numerous sculptures that are located in many prominent institutions and private collections throughout the United States. He cherished many long lasting friendships during his lifetime and will be remembered for his gentlemanly manner, his kindness and his love for his family. He became a faithful member of the Fair Haven Methodist Church and was a devoted member of the Ludtke Memorial Methodist Church. Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Erika Ludtke, son, Erik Ludtke, daughter, Ellen Ludtke, daughter, Kim Ludtke, and many other relatives as well as a host of dear friends. Memorial services celebrating Lawrence’s life will be held at Fair Haven Methodist Church in Houston at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested for memorials be sent in Lawrence’s honor to The Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030.
