Obituary of Betty Jo Collins

Betty Jo Collins March 08, 1925 - January 31, 2010 Betty Jo Rice Collins, 84, went peacefully home to our Heavenly Father on January 31, 2010. Born in Abilene, Texas on March 8, 1925 to Sarah Ann and Harry Leonard Rice. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 60 years, Jimmy, and three sisters Emmergene Taylor, Dorothy McClarty, Edith Spicer. She is survived by daughter Deborah Collins, son Jeffry Collins and wife Vivian, grandson Jeffry Scott Collins, three step-grandchildren Shawna Bunyard, Zachary Morreale, April Kendall, one step- great grandson Jimmy Bunyard, sister Harriann Goldsmith and husband Carroll, brother Harry L. Rice, and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty and Jimmy were owners of B&J Book Shop in La Porte for 33 years. In her early years of marriage she was a music teacher for La Porte ISD. Later for 11 years she was a leader of Girl Scout Troop 1373. She will be missed by all the girls whose lives she richly blessed. Betty and Jimmy were also charter members of Bayshore Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her illness and homegoing. Visitation with the family will be February 3rd from 6PM-8PM at Paul U. Lee La Porte Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be Thursday February 4th at 11AM at Bayshore Baptist Church of La Porte.
