Jose Angel “Johito” Martinez, age 67, of Pearland, passed away on March 15, 2010. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rogelio & Armantina Martinez. He survived by his wife, Lydia (Padovani) Martinez; Javier Martinez & his wife Jeanne; daughter, Janice Martinez and Jenniffer Everitt & her husband Wes; brother, Samuel Martinez & his wife Nadia; sisters, Carmen Martinez Sanchez & husband Chalo, Lucy Martinez Irizarry & her husband Felix, Milagros Martinez Santana & her husband Jesus, Annie Martinez Rivera & her husband Jeremias, and Teresita Martinez; grandchildren, Judy Ann, Jonathan, Jacque, Gabriella (Tinita), and William (Bubba); and great-grandchildren, Jordan, Tanner, and Elliegh.
Johito was born on February 14, 1943, in Yauco, Puerto Rico but resided in Oklahoma and settled in Pearland for the last three years. Jose and Lydia lived all over the country and world because of his job with General Dynamics as an Electrical Engineer. They also traveled extensively to visit family but it was most enjoyable to return to Puerto Rico where they could see everyone and spend time playing dominoes or being outside to enjoy the weather. In his spare time, Johito would often fish and was a Scout Master for Javier’s Boy Scout where they enjoyed many outings and activities together. Johito was regarded as the mentor to his family and he inspired many others to get educated and be successful. His grandchildren affectionately called him “Grandpa” or “Popa”. Jose loved being surrounded by family and was always up for a party.
Visitation for Johito is on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2010 at 9:30 am in the Clayton Chapel.
