Angela Cecile Johnston
February 05, 1929 - January 10, 2016
Angela Cecile Johnston, 86, passed away January 10, 2016. Angela was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on February 5, 1929.
Ann’s Southern heritage could be seen in her grace and charm. She loved going out to lunch, shopping and being with friends. She enjoyed lively sharing in discussions with her friends in Sunday School at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Ann was an avid reader, murder mysteries being her favorites. Some of her best hours, especially in the last few months, were spent reading; she expressed many times her thankfulness for the librarians at the Edith Wilson Library in La Porte, who helped maintain her reading habit.
Ann was a woman of strong faith that sustained her throughout the remodeling of her home after Hurricane Ike and through the loss of those who proceeded her in death, her husband Troy and her only son John, who was the light of her life; her stepfather James Wilson and her mother Brownlee Wilson.
Ann and her mother, Brownlee, were very close and lived together until Brownlee moved to Happy Harbor Nursing Home. Ann was a very diligent caregiver and proudly watched over her mother’s welfare until Brownlee passed away in 2003.
At her death, Ann was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in La Porte, Texas, but she had been an active member at St. James Presbyterian Church and Christ Lutheran Church, both also in La Porte.
Ann is survived by her two granddaughters whom she loved dearly, Amy Vanessa Bello and Stephanie Jane Levine and their families, her many friends, whom she treated like family and Otis, her beloved cat.
Ann would want to say thank you to her friends for their love and care, thank you to Jody Havens at Wells Fargo Bank for her care and concern during good times and bad; and thank you also to her caregiver, LaTara Devers for her devotion during Ann’s last months.
Ann’s memorial service will be held Friday February 5, 2016 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 815 South Broadway, La Porte, Texas 77571. In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial gifts may be made to Kids of La Porte After School Program at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Please make Checks payable to KLAS and note “Angela Johnston Memorial” in the memo.
