Obituary of Clifford Edwin Huhta

Clifford Edwin Huhta, devoted husband, father, and grandfather entered eternal rest December 2, 2007. He was born on January 31, 1916 in Quincy, Oregon to Emil and Inez Huhta. He graduated from Clatskanie High School, Clatskanie, Oregon, and attended the University of Oregon until entering the U.S. Army on June 23, 1941, later serving in the 40th Division. He served in Europe as a 1st Lieutenant with the 26th Yankee Division in the Infantry as a Communications Officer. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal while serving in General Patton’s 3rd Army in the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged on January 1, 1946. Clifford then began his studies at the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland. He entered duty with the FBI in April 1951 as a Special Agent, serving in Phoenix, AZ and Milwaukee, WI and as a Resident Agent in Superior, Wisconsin for 24 years until retiring in 1976.
Clifford then returned to school and graduated from the University of Maryland; he then began working for the FBI as a Special Agent serving in Phoenix, Arizona and Milwaukee, Wisconsin and as a Resident Agent in Superior, Wisconsin for 24 years until he retired in 1976. He was elected to the Douglas County Board of Supervisors in Superior, Wisconsin serving several terms. Clifford also served on boards for the Salvation Army, YMCA and Youth for Christ. He was a member of the Hammond Avenue Presbyterian Church serving as an Elder, Sunday school teacher, Choir member and on Pulpit committees.
Clifford loved the outdoors, enjoying his cabin on Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin, where he could enjoy his hobbies such as water and snow skiing, golfing, and deer hunting. Clifford was fluent in the Finnish language and visited Finland several times.
Clifford and Helen moved to Pearland in 1986 and became members of the First United Methodist Church. He was active in the Open Door Class and Choir. Clifford was a member of the Superior, Wisconsin Rotary Club as well as the Pearland Rotary Club and was also a member of Gideon International.
Clifford was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Steven E. Huhta and is survived by his loving wife Helen of 63 years; son Dr. James C. Huhta of Tampa, Florida; daughter Nancy H. Comello of Middleton, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law Patty Huhta Bartholomew of Columbia, Maryland; and sister Jean Strubel of Madison, Wisconsin; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was very proud of his family and their accomplishments.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 2314 Grand Blvd., Pearland, Texas 77581 on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Dr. Bob Joiner will be officiating.
