April 14, 2015
Ray Reid Morgan III, born on February 15, 1955, died on April 14, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Gadsden Alabama to Ray Reid Morgan Jr and Peggy Morgan. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother, Ralph Walton Bennett. He is survived by his wife, Marie Morgan, his two daughters, Paige and Alena Morgan, his son and daughter in-law, Ray Reid Morgan IV and Danielle Morgan, his granddaughter, Daileigh Morgan, and his mother in-law Dorothy Wilson.
He graduated from Texas A&M University and the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest. He was the rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in La Porte, TX and a volunteer chaplain for the police, fire, and EMS departments in La Porte. He was an active member of the DeMolay Supreme Council and a member of Gadsden Masonic Lodge #246, as well as many other Masonic organizations.
He was active in many different communities, always trying to make a positive difference in as many people’s lives as possible. Whether it was helping local children obtain vital life and school enrichment in the Kids of La Porte After School Program (KLAS), or helping teens and adults become positive and active community members through DeMolay, or assisting so many various fellow church members on their glorious journey a step closer to Christ through Cursillo. Reid, was always interested in helping to enhance someone’s life for the better. As a result, we know that he would like to continue to see these programs flourish, so they could continue to help people find the place they belong. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to any of these programs: KLAS c/o St. John’s Episcopal Church in La Porte TX, DeMolay International, or a Cursillo program of your choice.
His funeral will be held on April 21, 2015 at 1 PM, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in La Porte, located at 815 S. Broadway.
He was an avid Texas Aggie with a large splash of Crimson Tide mixed in with his maroon. And, as an Aggie knows, there is a spirit that can ne’er be told…
