John Michael Murtishaw
April 13, 1942 - September 27, 2013
John Michael Murtishaw, 71, died Friday, September 27, at his home in Houston.
Mike was born April 13, 1942 in Shreveport LA, to W.D Murtishaw and wife Meryle Little. At the age of two, Mike, his older brother, and parents moved from Bossier City LA to La Porte TX, where he spent all his school years.
Mike is survived by his daughters Robin Murtishaw & Peni Russell; brother Wesley Duane Murtishaw & wife Dorothy, sister Jane & husband Howard Lindsey; grandchildren Molly Watford & husband David, James Russell & wife Donna, Justin Russell & wife Jill; great-grandchildren Jenny Dunseith, Michael Dunseith, Hannah Claxton, Alexandria Watford and Elizabeth Watford; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mike was a member of the La Porte High School class of ‘60 and kept in touch with many of his friends from La Porte through his entire life. Mike loved people; he loved to talk with friends and family and would strike up conversations with strangers everywhere he went.
Mike loved cars, travel, and photography and found many opportunities to combine them all. He drove the Route 66 Fun Run 3 or 4 times and never stopped talking about it. He loved driving – the longer trip the better - and drove to Arizona, New Mexico, and California several times with friends, family and even by himself.
Mike’s early career was with Southwestern Pipe where he was first an inspector and later moved into sales. In the latter part of his working life, Mike sold cars for Robbins Autogroup, where he put his love of cars together with his love of talking with people.
Mike will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be at Paul U. Lee Chapel 2pm Tues. Oct. 1,2013 with a Funeral Service at 3pm.
