Obituary of Orel Gaines Otwell

Funeral Service Wednesday, Jul 06, 2016 Orel "Ott" Gaines Otwell July 31, 1919 - July 03, 2016 Orel Gaines Otwell, 96 years of age, known as “Ott” by one and all, went to be with the Lord on July 3, 2016. Born July 31, 1919 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Graduated from University of Arkansas of 1941 with BS in Agriculture. Served in the Air Force in WW2 and continued with the Air Force Reserve and achieved the rank of Captain. Professional career in agriculture chemical production and sales spanned 40 years. During his retirement years, he was a dedicated leader for Habitat for Humanity. He was a member of La Porte Community Church for 59 years and served as an Elder and Head Usher. Married to Jean G Otwell for 55 years who proceeded him in death in 2010. Survived by his children; daughters Jodie Tinder, Deby Mason and husband James, son Gaines Otwell and wife Kristina, and daughter Kati Otwell-Jenkins. He was the loving “Pa” to 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews from coast to coast. He was admired and loved by many and was an overflowing giver of kindness and generosity. His infamous “grin” was God’s gift. He truly loved the Lord and reflected the words “Well done, my good and faithful servant”. The family welcomes all to a visitation at Paul U. Lee Funeral home (201 South 3rd St, LaPorte, Texas, 77571) from 5 to 8 pm Tuesday July 5,2016. The service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday July 6, 2016 at LaPorte Community Church (200 1st St, LaPorte, Texas) with the graveside service immediately following at Grandview Cemetery (8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505).
