Obituary of Rachel Roberson

Rachel Roberson August 12, 1917 - February 04, 2012 Rachel Ward Roberson, age 94, of La Porte, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012. She was born August 12, 1917 in Cullman County, Alabama, to William P. and Roxie Ward. She was raised in Walter, Alabama and moved to Texas with her family in 1932. Soon after she graduated high school in Weslaco, Tx., she married Walter M. Roberson. In 1943, they moved to La Porte, where she has lived until recently . Rachel retired from E.I. du Pont after 38 years of service and for many years led a du Pont retiree travel club on vacation trips, both domestic and abroad. Rachel loved to travel, was proud of her command of American history, and became very interested in genealogy. She is survived by two children, Ward Roberson & wife, Karen, of Baytown, Tx., and Joy Beth Knaub & husband, Al, of Colorado, two grandchildren, Andy Roberson & Brooke, of Baytown, and Sarah Roberson, of Houston, and three great grandchildren, Kennedy, Drew Carter, and Audrey Roberson. Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 from 5-7 pm,and her funeral service, conducted by Rev. Kenneth Goodell, will be Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at 10 am , both at Paul U. Lee Funeral Home, 201 South 3rd St., La Porte, 77571. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Cemetery, Deer Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter, 2242 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Tx. 77030-2008. The family would like to offer a special word of thanks to the wonderful staffs of both Pine Tree Cottage, Pasadena, Tx. and A*MED Hospice Care for the loving and expert care they gave Mom.
