Joseph Bernard Roderick, 92, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, departed this life on Saturday, February 24, 2007 in Houston, Texas. Joseph was born on August 16, 1914 in Hornell, New York to Marcelino Bernard and Ella Viana Roderick. On May 23, 1942 Joseph married his childhood sweetheart, Dollie Elanore Oliver. Mr. Roderick spent 43 years working for Todd Shipyard Corporation in Hoboken, New Jersey and later in Galveston, Texas as their Chief Estimator. He dearly loved his family as well as his home on the golf course in Country Place, Pearland, Texas. Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, Marcy and Ella and brothers Raymond and Robert. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dollie Elanore, his brother John Marcy and wife Miriam of Schenectady, New York, daughter Elizabeth Fain and husband Ronald of the Woodlands, Texas, daughter Marcy Jane Weaver and husband David of Pearland, Texas and son William Oliver Roderick and wife Devora of Lake Jackson, Texas. Grandchildren include Dollie Anne Shoemaker and husband Robert, Raleigh, North Carolina; Meredith Leigh Fain, Coppell, Texas; Erik Justin MacKenna and wife Jennifer, Pearland, Texas; Katherine Allen and husband Dennis, Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Meghan Jones and husband Colin, Lewisville, Texas; Sarah Elizabeth Roderick, Plano, Texas and Laura Ashley Roderick, Houston Texas along with five great-grandchildren, Elanore Justine MacKenna, Malia Gail MacKenna, Dylan Gabriel Allen, Donovan Allen and Miles Dean Fain. The example he provided to his family will continue to persist. His devotion to his wife and family, his dedication to hard work, his pride and honesty, his ardent faith and his simple decency cannot be forgotten. These are qualities that sustain a society. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 27, 2007, at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Rd., in Pearland. The family will receive friends before Mass, from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM. Rite of committal will follow at South Park Cemetery, in Pearland.
