George Herman Sharp, Jr September 21, 1925 - June 30, 2016 George Herman Sharp, Jr. (90) passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Colonia Oaks of Pearland. He was born September 21, 1925 in Houston, Texas to George Herman and Irene Kropet Sharp. After graduating from La Porte High School he attended Texas A&M until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. When he returned home from the navy he joined his father in the family feed business. In 1974 he left Sharp Grain Co. to become the Tax Assessor Collector for the La Porte Independent School District. He retired from LPISD in 1994. Service to his community was always a priority in his life. As a Boy Scout he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. In 1946 he was appointed Scout Master of Troop 90. George was elected to the La Porte ISD School Board at age 23. He continued to serve off and on the school board until 1974. He was active in the La Porte Jaycees in both the local, state, and national level. He was a Past Master of the La Porte Masonic Lodge. He was active in his church serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and using his leadership skills to serve. After retiring he continued to serve his community as a volunteer at both Happy Harbor and San Jacinto Manor nursing homes. He brought many a smile to the residents with his funny songs and Aggie jokes. George is survived by his lovely wife of 71 years Mary Frances Dewberry “Fran”, his daughters Mary Linda Williams and husband Paxton, Dyane Richards and husband Alton, Rebekah Amunson and husband Steve. Grand children, Sarah Richards Sellers and husband Aaron, Hallie Williams Spence and husband David, Winfield Williams, Chad Amunson, and Austin Richards. Great-grandchildren Anderson Sellers and Hunter Sellers. Brother, Ronald A. Sharp and wife Rosemary as well as loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents George Herman Sharp & Irene Kropet Sharp and his grandson Sean Amunson. Services will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Paul U. Lee Funeral Home in La Porte, Texas, officiated by Pastor Alan Neel of Life Community Church, at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be held the morning of the service from 11:00 – 1:00. Internment service will be immediately following Services at Grand View Cemetery in Deer Park, Texas. Pall Bearers: Winfield Williams, Travis Pring, Chad Amunson, Chad Britton, Austin Richards, Keith Huff, Larry Chaney. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to the La Porte Education Foundation or the charity of your choice.
