Obituary of Stephen Jon Smith

Stephen Jon Smith February 07, 1949 - August 24, 2009 SMITH Stephen Jon Smith, 60, of La Porte passed away Monday August 24, 2009. He was born February 7, 1949 in Houston, Texas to Helen Strope and Wylie Watkins. He is a former senior warden of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church and past worshipful master at the Masonic Lodge 1298. Stephen was a boat captain and accomplished Yachtsman. He is preceded in death by is mother Helen Smith and step father Rufus (Bud) Smith. He is survived by wife Cynthia Smith, children Elizabeth Van Horn and Robert, Stephanie Cardenas and Carlos, step children Sunshine Verrett and Jesse, Casandra Perez and Reggie, Patrick Bassett, brother Gaylord Smith and Delores, cousin Ginny Garrett and Tom, grandchildren Lindsey Van Horn, Kathryn Van Horn, R.J. Van Horn, Andrew Cardenas, Victoria Cardenas, Hanna Cardenas, Hayden Cardenas, and step grandchildren Jonathon Verrett, James Verrett, Ethan Bassett, Tristan Bassett, and Ryan Perez. A memorial service will be held Saturday August 29, 2009 at 4:30 PM at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 107 E. Edgebrook Dr., Houston, TX 77034. In lieu of usual remembrances donation may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 2425 Fountain View Dr # 280, Houston, TX 77057.
