Obituary of James Ervin Spradling

James Ervin Spradling May 15, 1935 - January 27, 2016 James Ervin Spradling, 80, of La Porte died January 27, 2016. Born May 15, 1935 in Wolf City, Texas to Sidney Spradling and Hazel Trucks. James enjoyed life and excelled in sports in high school and at Wharton Junior College where he played basketball. After college he joined the Marines. James retired from Sears where he received numerous awards for salesmanship. Afterwards, he worked for the City of La Porte and retired from there in 1998. He was a member of the Monument Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents Sidney and Hazel Spradling; brother Jimmy Spradling; grandparents Henry and Clara Spradling and William and Effie Trucks. He is survived by his daughter Cheri Carswell of Crosby, Texas; brother Hal Spradling of Toronto, Canada; sister Peggie Darby of Greenville, Texas; sister Linda McAnaney of Pottsboro, Texas; sister in law Ruth Spradling of Kerville, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. His family would like to thank James’ special friends Clint Hurt and wife Ann, who followed James through his long years of battling cancer. Visitation is on Monday February 1, 2016 from 5pm to 7pm at Paul U. Lee La Porte Funeral Home. Services are Tuesday February 2, 2016 at 1pm at Paul U. Lee La Porte Funeral Home with interment immediately following at Grand View Memorial Park in Pasadena, Texas.
