Funeral Service Monday, Nov 13, 2017 11:00 AM William "Bill" A Stabs March 19, 1922 - November 09, 2017 Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Robbie Stabs and son, William A. Stabs III. He leaves behind a daughter, Carolyn Mounce and husband Norman, grandson Jay Trigg, and great grandchildren Jake Trigg and Carly Trigg. Bill moved to LaPorte, Texas in the early 1940’s where he met the love of his life, Robbie Stuckey. He was employed by Shell Oil Deer Park Refinery at age 19. He left Shell to join the Army Air Corp after the Pearl Harbor bombing. He trained in Dodge City, Kansas, and when the ward was over, he came back to LaPorte with a wife and a new son. He returned to Shell and stayed until he retired in 1978. After he retired, Bill and Robbie loved to travel pulling a 5th wheel trailer or motor home. They visited all but two of the lower 48 states and made several trips to Canada. They also traveled to Turkey, Texas to attend th Bob Wills Festival, his favorite musician. Bill served on the board of La Porte Community Church. He was very active as a Volunteer Fireman in LaPorte and served as Fire Marshal. He was elected to the LaPorte City Commission and served 5 terms as Police and Fire Commissioner. He was also a Master Mason member of LaPorte Masonic Lodge #857 AF & AM. He was an avid HAM Radio Operator with the call sign W5FJK. He used his knowledge of radio equipment to help set up LaPorte’s first radio dispatch system for police and fireman. Services Monday November 13, 2017 at Paul U. Lee LaPorte Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00am with visitation beginning at 9:00 am Rev Brian Christen officiating interment to follow at Grand View Memorial Park.
