Olin Underwood
January 28, 1967 - April 07, 2013
Memorial service will be 04/20/13 at 11:30 am in La Porte, Texas.
Olin was born in Bellaire, Texas on his mother’s birthday, January 28, 1967. He had diverse interests even as a young man being involved in raising animals as well as sports, skateboarding and eventually surfing.
He was a brilliant man. Not knowing how something worked or how to do something never slowed him down. He would read about it, try it and work it out until he learned whatever it was that interested him. After being in the shipping industry for a few years, Olin went out on his own to start a new company. Through experience and persistence he learned to be an entrepreneur. This adventure took him to different parts of the world. He lived in Costa Rica for a while forging business relationships before coming back to La Porte to develop Superior Reefer Service into the successful refrigerated container service business that it became. Recently, he had begun working in what he called his “dream job” for CSA with co-workers that he admired and of whom he spoke highly.
Olin loved surfing and spending time with his brothers on the beaches of Mexico sleeping on hammocks and eating avocados. He worked with his hands to build and rebuild just about anything mechanical, especially cars and motorcycles. Going fast on his motorcycle or in his 240 was especially fun for him.
Above all were the people that he loved. If he loved you, you knew it beyond doubt. He was attentive, compassionate, giving, and understanding. He was the epitome of Zen. Olin spent his leisure time cooking, drinking coffee with friends, and reading. He was always available and present for those that needed help. He was a big man with an even bigger heart.
He loved to spoil his kittens and make movies but more than any of that, he loved helping people and believed in social justice. His two sons and little brother are extraordinary humans which they attribute in large part to the role that Olin played in their lives.
Olin is survived by his wife, Janet Zaborowski and his two sons, Keefe Frentz and Kyle Frentz; his mother, Pam Youmans; brothers, Travis Underwood, Carl Mings, Joshua Mings, and Quinton Munoz; Father, Frank Underwood and his wife, Pat.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Olin Underwood Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo.
