Obituary of Donnie Blissit

Donnie Blissit, age 67, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on June 21, 2010. He is preceded in death by his parents, Aurthur He is survived by his wife, Marvin (Maley) Blissit; son, Nathan Blissit & his wife Tiffany; stepson, Lynn Jones & his wife Jenny; daughter, Blake Blissit; stepdaughter, Cheryl Jones; brothers, Sonny Blissit & his wife Gloria, and Ronnie Blissit; grandchildren, Alyssa White, Taylor Connors, and Shane Connors; and host of many other family & friends. Donnie G. Blissit was born on September 19, 1942 in Corpus Christi, Texas and resided in the Houston area his entire life. Donnie and Marvin were married for 32 wonderful years and created their fondest memories together traveling to Corpus and San Antonio or simply working in the yard. He was employed by Solutia (previously Monsanto) for 27 years and after retirement worked at Walmart for a short time. Family was the most important part of Donnie’s life and he was always there for them in times of need and he also enjoyed helping friends and neighbors. He was a peace officer for almost twelve years with the Harris County Sheriff’s Department , captain of the Pearland Volunteer Fire Department for eighteen years and also was very involved with the Solutia Fire Department during his employment there. Donnie enjoyed teaching at Texas A & M Fire School in College Station for many years. He was affectionately known as Granpa Donnie or Texas Grandpa to his grandkids. Donnie will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved him. Visitation for Donnie will be on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home. The Funeral Service is on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 10:00 am in the Clayton Chapel. Interment is at Alvin Cemetery in Alvin, Texas.
