Rebecca Jeanne Zemanek November 10, 1942 - March 27, 2014 Rebecca Jeanne Zemanek, 71, passed away in La Porte, Texas on March 27, 2014. She was born in Morgan’s Point, Texas on November 10, 1942. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, John Paul Zemanek, Sr. She is survived by her son, John P. Zemanek, Jr. and wife, Stephanie Zemanek, and son, Brantley Eugene “Rocky” Zemanek, and girlfriend, Rachel Nacol, grandchildren John Andrew Zemanek, Devin Renae Zemanek, Lauren Victoria Zemanek and Kendal Elise Zemanek, as well as her loyal canine companions, Baby and Rusty. Jeanne was a very active member of the La Porte-Bayshore community for many, many years. She had served as the Treasurer of the La Porte Boy’s Baseball Association, La Porte Livestock Show & Rodeo Association and La Porte Go-Texan Committee; President & Co-Founder of both the La Porte High School Bulldog Band Booster Club & Orchestra Booster Club; Secretary/Treasurer of the La Porte Rotary Club; Secretary of the La Porte Optimist Club; past member of the Board of Directors of the Neighborhood Centers, La Porte Heritage Society, Friends of the Library, La Porte Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, La Porte Census Committee and the City of La Porte Board of Adjustments. She was a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and recipient of La Porte Rotary Club’s, Paul Harris Award. Jeanne was also extremely involved in the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce. Husband, John Paul Zemanek, served as the Chamber President for quite a number of years. She was active long before he became President, and she continued her participation even after he left the Chamber due to illness. She loved spending time with the office staff and volunteers and looked forward to their events. She was a member of the Voice of the Chamber since 1978. This group eventually became known as the Ambassadors, and she was active with this group until her illness no longer allowed her to attend. She worked on membership drives and sold so many Chamber memberships that she became an official Life Member of the Chamber. She chaired and co-chaired the annual Sylvan Beach Festival. Jeanne served as Chairman of the New Teachers Luncheon Committee and the Director of Volunteers for the Salute to Industry Golf Tournament for many years. She decorated for more banquets than you can possibly imagine. She solicited donations, prizes and sponsorships for many different events and sold tickets at the Sylvan Beach Festival, at cookouts and at Casino Night. In honor of all her hard work, she was the recipient of the 2013 Chamber Volunteer of the Year Award. She was a loving, compassionate and tireless wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her obsession with handbags and fine writing instruments has made for many funny stories to share among her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who love her. We celebrate the fact that she is no longer in pain and her strong faith led her home where the angels and John Paul rejoice in Heaven. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2014 at Paul U Lee Funeral Home in La Porte, Texas. Services will be on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Bayshore Baptist Church in La Porte, with interment at Grand View Cemetery following the services.
