Walter was always a pillar of strength and stability to me in particular .Even as a little boy during WW2,he showed a generous and faithful nature:our Mutti would send him to the nearby village of Jettingen to buy a piece of sausage. He was dressed in a Tirolean outfit with felt hat sporting the feather of a rooster,a blue checkered shirt and lederhosen. He was hungry and licked the liverwurst all the way home ,but never ate it up,knowing how his fatherless family were famished and waited for him.At sunset, when Mutti would leave us to haggle for food, and sister Helga cried hysterically ,he calmed her with “sermons”.I will always love his memory. It is hard to face the future without him,but I am comforted by the certainty that he will welcome us,who loved him ,when we pass through the curtain to eternal life.We love you,Walter, your brother Frieder.
