Obituary of Anne Block

Anne “Nancy” Tryphena (Newton) Block, 95, passed away Friday. May 10, 2019.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Marie Newton; her loving husband of 51 years, Paul G. Block; brother, Alfred and sister, Reta.  Left to cherish her memory are her children, Barbara Campise, Paula Scardino and husband, John, Paul G. “Chip” Block Jr. and wife, Cathy Morin; grandchildren, James Campise Jr., Karen Campise DuPriest, John Campise, Kimberly Taylor, Scott Soland, Ryan Soland, Mike Block, Randy Block, Amanda Block; twenty great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends.

Nancy was born and raised in England.  During World War II, she volunteered in the Auxiliary Territorial Service and met Paul while he was stationed overseas during the war.  Nancy was a World War II English War bride.  They were married in 1943 and while still in England, Barbara and Paula were born.  After the war, the family returned to America by way of New York on the Queen Mary ship. Nancy and the two girls then traveled by train to Houston where Paul met them at Union Station and welcomed them to their new home.  Nancy loved gardening, gambling, traveling and taking care of her little dogs throughout her life.  She cherished spending time with her family and proudly boasted that she was able to spend 74 consecutive years together with her family for Christmas Eve.  Nancy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Services for Nancy will be held Friday, May 17, 2019 at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581.  The visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 am with the funeral service following at 11:00 am with Deacon Jesse Tollett officiating.  Interment will follow in the afternoon at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
