Obituary of Sherri Elaine Wingard
Sherri Elaine Greenawalt Wingard, of La Porte, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, at UTMB Medical Center, Clear Lake, on November 24, 2019 at the age of 68. She was born April 5, 1951 in Pecos, Texas, the first daughter to Marjorie Corinne (née Wendt) and Charles Ray Greenawalt. Sherri was the second of six children in a large and loving family. She grew up in Port Lavaca, Houston, and Palacios, Texas before moving to Waco, TX as a teenager where she graduated from University High School. Sherri enrolled in and earned her Cosmetology License immediately after high school and spent several years in this profession. In the spring of 1976, Sherri moved to Silver Springs, Maryland with plans to attend college. When her temporary job at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC, introduced her to the love of her life, Eugene Richard Wingard, Jr., she and her fiancée soon moved back to Houston. They were married on December 10, 1976 and shorty after she went to work at American General. Sherri and Richard realized one of their dreams and professed to everyone that one of their happiest days was when Sherri gave birth to their daughter, Sarah Adonia Wingard, on October 11, 1981. Sherri was a devoted mother to her daughter and to her four-legged furbabies. Sherri continued working in various administrative capacities through the years as an independent contractor which including a stint at Linde Gas on the ship channel and ended up with her working as part of the Recruiting Team at Accenture where she retired in July, 2019.
Sherri was a lover of all animals, especially cats. She was incredibly artistic and loved doing things for others. Her incredible sewing talent and ability to visualize and figure out how to make what she envisioned was tested over the years as she made clothes and especially Halloween costumes for herself, her daughter, and her sister, all to acclaim by anyone who saw what she created. She also excelled at crafting. She especially loved making Christmas ornaments and other holiday decorations. An avid reader, Sherri enjoyed books in every genre.
Sherri is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Eugene Richard Wingard, Jr. Sherri is survived by her daughter, Sarah Wingard; Furbabies: Mimi, Skeeter, Boo, Mickey, and Chloe.
