Elma F. Bourgeois, 87, passed away on September 7, 2010. She is preceded in death by her parents Habencio and Maria Fernandez; husband, Claude J. Bourgeois; and daughter, Maria Teresa Bourgeois. She is survived by her son, Claude J. Bourgeois, Jr. and wife Kathy; daughters, Bobbielynn Sommers and husband David, Cynthia Bourgeois-Jones and husband Norman; and brother, Sigifredo Fernandez; fifteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of many other family and friends.
Elma and Claude were married for 40 years and from this union they had four children. For Elma, her life was her family and she sought to instill and raise them with the values of the Catholic Church. It was very important to her that the children were active in the church. She was a woman of strong faith and opinion. Elma’s devotion to family also extended to her grandchildren as she was affectionately called “Mamaita”. She will always be remembered for her colloquialisms and for her love of cooking for her son as well as the family. Elma’s chicken fricassee was a special dish that everyone will always remember. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
