Edgar Louis Crenek, 96, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Adela Crenek; his loving wife of 64 years, Gertrude Crenek; son, Robert Crenek; sister, Lorena Canik; and granddaughter, Lauren Crenek. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Gary Crenek and wife, Tammie; daughter, Judy Brandt; daughter-in-law Robin Albrecht; grandchildren, Brock Crenek, Brooke Grammier, Vanessa Brandt, Beau Crenek, Natalie Turner, Emily Albino, Lindsay Crenek, Ashlyn Crenek; great grandchildren, Josh, Catherine, Braxton, Falyn, Jacob, Austin, Audrey, Liv, Sydney, Sawyer, and Jackson; and a host of other family and dear friends. Edgar was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Edgar was in Germany at the end of the war and spent an additional year in Germany and Czechoslovakia as a translator. He returned to the States and settled in Houston where he would meet his future life partner, Gertrude at a popular polka dance hall. From there on, his life centered around his family and his Catholic faith. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and assisted as a church usher his entire life. Many hours were spent to work the church bazaars and bingos, along with volunteering at the hospital. Edgar was truly a gentle, compassionate and unselfish soul who was always available to help others in need. Edgar enjoyed spending time with his family and cooking his signature BBQ chicken for family gatherings. He was very active in his children’s lives and always involved in their sports and school activities. He was affectionately known as “PePaw” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was similarly involved in their activities as well. Edgar and Gertrude joined the Polka Lovers Klub of America and were elected King and Queen in 1998. He was a shrewd domino player and loved playing bingo. Edgar loved listening to and watching the Astros, along with cultivating his beloved garden. True to his farming roots, he would happily explain the cotton ginning process during tours at the Fairchilds gin. Edgar will be immensely missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Edgar's honor to St. Helen Catholic Church, Attn: Capital Campaign in the memo line.
