Mrs. Theresa Chidi “Baby” (nee Kwazu) Iloba, 69, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2020. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Nnamdi Iloba and Nmutaka Iloba; daughters, Isioma Iloba and Adaobi Iloba-Onwuka; grandchildren, Uche Onwuka, Debbie Wagner-Iloba, Divine Iloba, David Iloba, Daniel Iloba; many sisters, brothers, cousins, relatives and dear friends. Mrs. Theresa Chidi Iloba (Nee Kwazu) was born into an amazing and loving family by Mark and Elizabeth Kwazu of Aguleri. She was popularly known as “Baby” Kwazu by her very close- knit 6 siblings 3 brothers; Chuka, John and Anthony Kwazu and 3 sisters Agnes Manafa (deceased), Monica Obinga and Elizabeth Kwazu. She started her high school at Mater Ambalis Secondary School Umuoji, Anambra State Eastern Nigeria. She then went to Teachers Training College (TTC) Ikota-Ikepene in Cross Rivers to do her teachers training. Her winning disposition and kind heart at NIPOST in Lagos where she worked caught the eyes of Mr. Macaulay Okonkwo who introduced her to his brother in-law. He had just arrived from Germany after getting his PhD. She dated and married the late Prof Chukwunyeaka Iloba, our father in 1973 and our family was born, fulfilling the wishes of my ancestors. Did you know what our full family name is “ILO BABA E-CHINA” meaning “may my father’s compound not close down”. To ensure a solid footing for her future, Theresa got her diploma in Awka and later went on to get a BA in Education/ Religion from 1981-1984 from the University of Nigeria Nsukka. Her efforts in going to school whilst raising her family was great inspiration for her children who all followed in her footsteps via their own academic pursuits. She was deeply loved and respected in the UNN campus by all who knew her. From 1986-1988 she worked at the Careers Department, University of Nigeria. She pursued a few other career objectives thereafter. And in 2003 she made the long journey to immigrate to America. She resided in Maryland, USA for several years and then relocated to Houston, Texas in 2013 as her final home several years later. She retired from active service in 2016. All through her life, she was known for her joyous nature, open heart of love, peaceful relationships, and acceptance to all in respective of who they are. She knew everyone far and wide, young, and old and made great relationships that lasted for decades. Mommy loved to hang out with her family and friends in typical humble Aguleri style with some awesome Nsala soup with fresh fish and other goodies. And it is in our hope, that all of us will continue this tradition of togetherness and oneness no matter where we are globally. A Catholic Memorial Service will be held in her honor at 11:00 am on Friday, August 28, 2020 at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 12267 W Bellfort Avenue, Sugar Land, Texas 77478.
