Obituary of Pat Riley

Patricia (Pat) Carolyn Riley, 95 passed away September 11, 2020. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Carroll and Marguerite Pray, her husband Jack Riley, sister Shirley Otis, and great grandchild Lucas Riley. Pat is survived by her loving family, son Kevin and wife Martha, son Sean and wife Linda, daughter Kerry Regan and husband Steve, son Brian and wife Margarita, son Colin and husband Bret Detillier, sister Lynn Raugh and husband Randy, grandchildren Nick, Noah, Jason, Dustin, Hannah, Rebekah, Riley, Matthew, Cameron, Daniel, Thomas, and Diego,: great grandchildren Jakob, Lincoln, Jude, Cadhla, Aiden, Diego, Emma, Theodore, Francis, Kelsey and Morgan. Pat grew up in Kansas City Kansas and graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1943. She graduated from Kansas State University in 1947 with a degree in journalism. Following graduation, she moved to the Bay Area of California and worked as a reporter for the Mountain View Register Leader and later returned to Kansas City to work for her hometown newspaper, the Kansas City Kansan. While there, she met her husband Jack, who also worked for the newspaper. Jack’s career eventually brought them to La Porte, where she lived for 57 years. Pat was a founding member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, where she also served as a volunteer for over 50 years. Additionally, she was a longtime volunteer for La Porte Neighborhood Center. Throughout her life, she enjoyed dancing, crossword puzzles, reading mysteries, watching classic films and listening to big band music. She particularly loved hosting gatherings with family and friends, culminating with a parade for her 95th birthday, just a few weeks ago. A Visitation and Rosary will be held at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in La Porte on Wednesday, September 16. The Visitation is from 5 – 6:00 PM and the Rosary from 6 – 7:00 PM. A Private Family Funeral Mass will be at the Church at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 17. Services are under the direction of Clayton Funeral Home, La Porte. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the St. Mary’s Chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
