Obituary of John Kocian

John Kocian, 62, passed away peacefully at home on January 14, 2021 in La Porte, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry F. Kocian and Martha A. Kocian. John is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 25 years, Donna Kocian and son Jonathan Charles Kocian of La Porte, daughter Cassi Misty Kocian of Houston, sister and brother-in-law; Shirley and James Hargrove Jr. of Porter, in-laws; Charles and Ingrid Kent of Baytown, brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Richard and Michelle Kent (and family) of Freeport, nephews; James Hargrove III and wife Sarah of Humble and Brandon Hargrove and wife Chelsae of Porter, as well as many great and great-great nephews and nieces. John was born in Uijeongbu, South Korea on February 21, 1958 to Kim Duk Yun. He and his sister were brought to the United States as the children of Henry F. & Martha Kocian. He attended Forest Brook High School, eventually getting his GED and attending college. Most recently, he worked as an Engineering Superintendent for Flowers Baking Company for 17 years after working for Rainbo/Earthgrains/Sara Lee Baking Companies for 22 years through all transitional phases. He was dedicated to his job and loved the people he worked with. John loved fixing and tinkering with anything and everything electronic; computers and Cowboys (Dallas) were his most favorite interests. He enjoyed building and creating as he was truly a master of all trades. John loved his children dearly and was a hands-on father from the moment his children were born. He enjoyed doing things with them and for them. He was always helping others, giving of his time and talent when needed, and providing donations to worthy causes. Everyone who knew John knows that he would have gladly given the shirt off his back to help anyone. John will be missed terribly by all those who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held at Clayton Funeral Home, 201 S. 3rd St. in La Porte, at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 23rd with Dr. Phillip Dunn officiating.
