Charles Russell Killian Sr., born on January 9th 1930 in Holt, Alabama, passed away on All Saints Day, November 1st 2010 at the age of 80. His parents Russell and Retha Killian preceded him in death. Charlie is survived by: his wife of 37 years, Adelene Killian; children, Russell Killian and wife Dawn, his daughter Susan McRae; and eldest son Charles Killian Jr.; his sister, Mary Lowrey; nephew, Lee Lowrey, and grandchildren, Kevin Killian, Christina Killian, and eldest grandson Sean McRae; and a host of many other family and friends. Charlie graduated 5th in his class from The University of Alabama, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering. He continued his education in both chemical and electrical engineering. Charlie took great pride in keeping technically knowledgeable at a level that was state-of-the art. He worked on the world’s first large scale solid-fueled rocket. Charlie designed flight simulator equipment and a “freeze refining” process to purify foods and metals. Charlie was an expert in Polystyrene and Styrene. He was also granted US Patents in a variety of areas from electrical circuitry to chemical processes. Over the years Charlie worked for Huntsman Chemical Corporation, Goodson Polymers, American Hoeschst, Foster Grant Company, Commercial Chemical Consultants, Electrical Associates, Inc., Melpar, Inc., US Army – Signal Corps, and Thiokol Corporation. Charlie held high expectations for himself as well as others. His philosophy was there are “no problems… just challenges.” He was able to see the whole picture and simplify it in terms everyone could understand. Despite his accomplishments and intelligence he was a humble and well-grounded man. His favorite things in life included sharing a meal with family and friends, golfing, bowling and of course flying his own airplane. Charlie and Addie also enjoyed breeding, raising, and racing Arabian horses. Charlie will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 2pm to 5pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland TX 77581. Graveside services will be Monday, November 8th, 2010 at 1pm at Azalea Rest Cemetery in Zachary, LA.
