Obituary of Anne Mendonca
Please share a memory of Anne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anne Mendonca, passed from this world on November 7, 2010. She was born Anna Delina Carrier in New York City on February 4, 1934, the second of five children born to Joseph Amede Carriere and Catherine Testa Carriere.
Anne’s impact on this world cannot be adequately catalogued in this brief obituary, nor can her life’s contributions and true essence be captured here. She was selfless and strong, managing every challenge that faced her during her lifetime.
Anne started out life with a love of ballet and attended a prestigious high school for the performing arts. She had the opportunity to fulfill her childhood dream by performing at Carnegie Hall. Anne married William J. Scherrer and became the proud mother of eight children. Her love of the arts continued throughout her life and was handed down to her children and grandchildren. Anne enjoyed cooking her grandmother’s Italian recipes and teaching her children the importance of her family’s traditions. She took pride in her real estate career and had a keen eye for a deal. In the next chapter of Anne’s life, she was lucky enough to find love for a second time. She married Jim Mendonca in 1982 and spent 28 years married to her best friend. Anne and Jim enjoyed traveling the U.S. and abroad until retirement years took them to the Texas gulf coast. She loved the water, watching sunsets, and visiting with family and friends. Although retired, Anne never gave up her entrepreneurial spirit and involvement in real estate opportunities.
She will be most fondly remembered for the incredible impact she made on the lives of all of those she met, her unwavering support of her children’s’ lives and careers and her determination to grow and learn. We find peace in knowing that her dedication and love will remain in the hearts of her family and friends. She left this place better than she found it while leaving behind her zest of life and unconditional love.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Catherine Carriere, sister Catherine “Tootsie” Carrier, brother Daniel Carrier, husband William J.
